The cannabis industry has come a long way since its inception, and it continues to evolve on the daily. Thankfully, there are individuals who are knee-deep in the space that continue to push and advocate for positive change, whether it’s an attempt to break the stigma in cannabis or simply doing a call to action to raise awareness and spread much-needed education.
Let’s talk about the company VETCBD, where “wellness” is more than a buzzword, it’s a mission. Thanks to education, research, and advocacy, the company’s expert team of veterinary professionals has one goal: to improve the lives of animals we share our world with.

- “Over the past 7 years, we’ve seen the remarkable improvement in quality of life that cannabis can provide animals. In fact, many animals suffering from debilitating conditions have only been able to find relief through cannabis. The regulations need to be updated to allow veterinarians to recommend cannabis, and to provide pet owners safe, reliable access to products that can improve their pets lives.”

They provide this education to others by provide a better understanding of the endocannabinoid system and the development of cannabinoid-based therapeutics. Not only do they publicly promote the medicinal benefits of cannabis, but they formulate their own groundbreaking products using clinical trials, all while advocating for legislative change in California.
VETCBD was founded by veterinarian Dr. Tim Shu, who created the company in 2015 after working six years as a vet in Los Angeles clinics. After witnessing the limits in traditional medicine, as well as the therapeutic benefits in cannabis, he realized he wanted to provide the same results for his patients.
VETCBD provides free support by phone, live chat, or email from veterinary professionals with a decade of experience, creating products with premium ingredients only, including CBD-infused extracts and no additives.
New Bill to Legalize Pet Cannabis Products
Dr. Shu has been actively building the Pet Cannabis Coalition that supports a new bill in California called AB 1885. This bill aims to legalize licensed cannabis products for pets calling all industry professionals and advocates to donate or write letters of support to legislators in California.
Veterinarians are currently unable to recommend licensed cannabis products to their clients, and cannabis products for pets can not be labeled for animals. Dr. Shu understands cannabis is medicinally effective for animals, in the same way it works for humans. He hopes to help veterinarians promote the use of cannabinoid therapeutics to their clients who may benefit from their use.
AB 1885 will amend MAUCRSA to include animal-specific cannabis products. If passed, the bill will be the first of its kind, allowing the state of California to lead the world on progressive cannabis reform like it did in 1996 with Prop 215.
Dr. Tim Shu states, “When people think of medical cannabis, the conversation is usually focused on its benefits for people. But we need to realize that cannabis can also provide animals life-changing, and oftentimes life-saving, benefits. Cannabis’s ability to relieve pain, anxiety, inflammation, nausea, and seizures should not be limited to people, but needs to be made widely available to animals as well.”
“California Assembly Bill 1885 (AB 1885) does just that. With this bill, California can make history by elevating the standard of care for animals through access to cannabis, just like it did for people with Prop 215 in 1996.”
